Prodigal Son – A Book Review

Well, I found a new book series that I absolutely love. I accidentally started on book 6, but I have every intention of getting my hands on the rest of the series. So, while this read is still fresh in my mind, I will give my thoughts on the book. Here is my book review on Prodigal Son.

What it’s About

As I mentioned in the intro, Prodigal Son is the 6th book in the series. The series is called Orphan X and was written by Gregg Hurwitz. It follows our main character, Evan Smoak, and from what I can tell, he is the main character of the entire series. As a child he was taken from a group home and trained to be an assassin. After a few years he left and tried to help people. Prodigal Son picks up as he is trying to get used to being “retired” from the business. However, when someone reaches out to him, he is pulled out of retirement and forced to face a past that he tried to leave behind and forget.

Prodigal Son Highlights

Honestly, what did I not enjoy. This book held my attention from start to finish. Gregg Hurwitz wrote great characters, and while watching them evolve as the story went on, you become really attached. From conflicts with other characters and conflicts with themselves, each character is believable and the story is mesmerising. Evan is a very lovable character, and I love his personality. A very well written character, and you find yourself cheering for him the whole time. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and get to know this character even more. And the ending of the book leaves you hanging and wondering what happened to Evan.

Dislikes?

Not a lot. Like I’ve said, I love this book. If I had to nitpick at anything, it would probably be the weird brother-sister interaction. There were twin siblings, a brother and sister, and the way some things were written, made it seem like they had some sort of telepathic connection. Which doesn’t fit with the story at all. Maybe I misunderstood this part and it could have just been a very close understanding that they had as twins, but that’s my only nitpick. There was nothing else that I disliked about this book.

Prodigal Son Overall Thoughts

To best describe this story, if you enjoyed the Bourne movies, you will love this series. A really good read, amazing and lovable characters, and an incredible story line. Do I recommend this book? 100%. Prodigal Son is a must read, in my opinion. And the best part of the book – I couldn’t tell that I was only joining the series in book 6. In fact, I was surprised to find out that there were 5 books before this one. Needless to say, I will be tracking down the rest of the series this year and I can’t wait to read them all. If you’re looking for a good read, read this book.

That’s That

So, that’s my review of Prodigal Son and I can’t wait to review the rest of the series. In the meantime, I need to find my next read. Are you enjoying these book reviews? Are they giving you ideas for your next read? Do you prefer a physical book, or e-book? What about reading a book or listening to an audio book? I would love to hear what you guys enjoy. And maybe you have some recommendations for books I should read. Feel free to send me your favourite books, and I’ll see if I can get my hands on them. Maybe I will need to get a library card. Anything can happen, but only if we try.
