Rethinking My Journey

So, let me start this by apologising to you all. I really wanted my fitness journey to inspire and motivate you all. And I failed at that. Week after week I told you how I failed that week, and unfortunately this week is no different. So, now I am rethinking my journey and what it should look like.

The struggle

My biggest struggle has been motivation. I workout once a week because I have a friend who will workout with me. Other than that, I struggle with motivation. Yes, I am aware that this is tied to ADHD and I do take that into consideration. The main struggle right now is how to rewire my brain in that regard. To give you guys an idea of how hard it is, I will tell myself in the morning that I’m going to do this one thing and then I’m going to do a workout. I’ll even pick the workout video I’m going to do. In the span of doing that one thing, I lose all motivation to do the workout. Why not do it first then? The one thing I need to do first usually has a higher priority. So, rethinking my journey will involve figuring out how to retrain my brain to do something when I don’t feel like it.

rethinking my journey with food

Here is another area where I struggle to find motivation. Again, if I’m cooking with or for someone, the motivation is there. As soon as it’s just me – gone. The other struggle, which I think is a bit more of a hindrance right now is finances. Not being able to buy the groceries I want to buy is a big kick in the face. There is food in my place, so the problem is not having what I need to make a recipe I want. Or, finding a recipe that involves everything I have. Maybe with some modifications. Honestly, I have no idea how I’m going to solve this problem at the moment. It will take creativity rethinking my journey with food.

Water intake

You would think this would be the easiest one to do. Just drink water. Some people have suggested setting timers to remind me to drink water. I might try that, but how do I know how many timers and how spaced apart they should be? This might be something I’m overthinking, but the amount of water one should drink will depend on their activity level. And, seeing as I don’t know how active I’ll be each day, how do I know how many timers to set? Yeah, maybe I won’t try timers.

rethinking my journey and hitting pause

No, this doesn’t mean I’m going to stop trying to workout regularly. The pause is on my 75 Soft Challenge. It was supposed to be almost over by now and then rolling into another challenge. However, I think I bit off more than I can chew, so to speak. I didn’t take into consideration all the things that were involved in the challenge and how that would work with my brain. This doesn’t mean I’m giving up on 75 Soft. But I am putting a pin in it for now until I can retrain my brain a bit more. Maybe I need to start with a few smaller challenges. Or, just learn how to convince my brain to like working out.

fitness fridays

What does this mean for Fitness Friday blogs? I’m not sure. I have a lot to think about and figure out. Hopefully I can figure it out this coming week. There is so much I need to do and I’m putting in quite a bit of hours at the hotel now as well. On top of that, I’m drawing pictures for the kids at church, and I’m way behind on that. Then I’ve got my reading challenge, watching hockey playoffs, planning the watch parties for the hotel, blogging, and trying to get enough sleep. Staying healthy is important too as I try not to completely burn out to the point of getting sick. Rethinking my journey will take a while, and while I work at it, I’ll have to figure out life as well. But, as we know, anything can happen if we try. So, I gotta try.
