Holiday Prep

prep for holiday

Just a few more days till I go away for Christmas Break and I still have so much to do. I suppose I better get my butt in gear and get things done. Holiday prep, in this case, will look like me getting ready to go on a holiday, not get ready for Christmas. I never feel ready for Christmas. So, this is what needs to be done.

Clean my Room

I know what some of you are thinking. Steph, you live in a hotel room. How hard is it to clean? I’m glad you asked. Normally, a room like this would take about an hour to clean on my own, if it was empty and I was getting it ready for a guest. However, in my case, cleaning the room means trying to organise it and find room for all my stuff. That’s the tricky part. Almost all my dishes have a home, but not my pantry items. That will take a bit of creativity on my part. However, I am determined to make this hotel room feel as much like home as possible. I will be here a while.

Holiday Prep Mission: Eat Food

Now I know that this one sounds weird, but as soon as you hear how eating food helps with my holiday prep, you’ll understand. I’m going to be gone for a week. That means that any food with an expiry date has to either be eaten or thrown out before I leave. With money as tight as it is, throwing out food is the equivalent of throwing away money. Not something I relish at the moment. So, I want to try and use up as much of it as possible. Interestingly enough, one of those things is my dairy free coffee creamer. Guess I’ll be drinking a lot of coffee in the next few days. Who knows, maybe this will also inadvertently get rid of some pantry items that I need to find space for.

Squeeze in Hours

I still need a paycheck, so I’m trying to squeeze as many hours in as possible. My boss is awesome and has agreed to deposit my check for me next Friday, since I’ll be gone. Right now it looks like it may be one of my lowest checks, so I’m trying to change that by putting in a few extra hours. Wish me luck.

Pack

This is an obvious holiday prep step. I’m waiting till right before packing to do my laundry, so that everything is freshly clean. I’m also wanting to make sure that I have comfortable clothing for the flight. Another reason I’m leaving this all to the last minute, I don’t want dirty laundry sitting in my basket for over a week. That would just leave me with a smelly room.

Completed Holiday Prep

There are a few things that I have already looked after. Cat food and litter has been stocked up on and one of my friends from work has offered to check in on them to make sure they get their supplements – Teddy needs anxiety meds and Marshall needs joint supplements for his hip. I’ve gone over what needs to be looked after, but I also need to write it up so that he knows which meds go to who and how much each gets. I also have my ride to the airport figured out.

Just Letting You Know

So, my flight is on a Saturday morning. Saturdays are when I try to get you the next chapter of the novel, and I honestly try to do that in the morning. Now, we all know that doesn’t always happen. So, if the chapters come late, I’m sorry. I might try and get those ready during my Friday night shift and then post them right before I leave for the airport at six in the morning. However, considering that I’m trying to get as many hours in as possible, this might not happen if I’m doing hotel work instead. I may even try to nap during my night shift so that I’m not as tired when I leave. Who knows. I do promise that it will get posted on Saturday, just not sure when.

So, with that all being said, I’m going to continue on with taking care of my room. I have some dishes I need to wash, and I want to organise another part of my room, and locate some stuff. Maybe I’ll even take a nap before my night shift tonight. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week and I’ll see you sometime on Saturday with the next two chapters of my novel. I wonder how long I’ll make it? How many chapters would you like in the novel? Maybe it will be a series. Anything is possible, if we try.
