Cardio Disappointment

Well, there are a few things that make this week a cardio disappointment. For one, I planned on doing a lot more cardio than I actually did. Secondly, my cardio session went absolutely terribly. Let me tell you about it.

The plan

So, many of you have probably heard of the treadmill challenge called 12-3-30. For those of you who have not, I’ll quickly explain. You set your treadmill incline to 12, your speed to 3mph and do that for 30 minutes. Sounds simple. I watched many YouTubers try it and laughed as they struggled through it. That got me thinking though. What if I tried that challenge for a week or so? It was a good thought, but not so easy to execute.

Cardio HINDRANCES

I would have to say that the biggest hindrance was my schedule. Working 5 nights a week is not really easy for making a regular schedule. This will be changing shortly as I’m training the new girl on her first night shift today. Once that’s done, and she feels confident to work on her own, I’ll have those nights to sleep. I will still have three nights a week, but that’s a lot more doable. The other hindrance is me. There were plenty of days where I had time to workout and focus on some cardio workouts, but didn’t. I only have myself to blame.

getting started again

Well, the other day I finally found the motivation to start the workout. That’s where I ran into a few other problems. One, I was so focused on getting onto the treadmill and making sure that my headphones worked that I forgot to bring water with me. However, I thought this challenge was going to be a walk in the park, so I wasn’t worried. I was wrong. The treadmill I was using could only go up to an incline of 10. I shrugged this off and began the workout, setting my speed to 3mph. Within 4 minutes my legs were tired and I was breathing heavily. This workout was no walk in the park. After 5 minutes I was adjusting things, very disappointed in myself, and bored. I have no idea how I used to be able to workout on a treadmill.

Cardio disappointment

Needless to say I was very disappointed when I tried to throw some running in and couldn’t even make it a minute. With the goal to run my second 10km run this year on my mind, I knew that I had a lot of work to do. Once I get outside, I’m confident that I’ll do better with my running. With the weather being more on the cold side right now, with snow and possibly ice, I will stick to the treadmill. I’m going to try the treadmill challenge again, but next time I’m bringing a book so that I can read while I walk on the treadmill….or maybe I should do some catch up on Crime Junkie podcasts.

exciting annoucement

It’s almost time to make an exciting announcement. Next Friday I’m going to share my new fitness challenge and I’m super excited and terrified at the same time. It’s going to require a lot of hard work, so I hope I’m up to the challenge. I do have some friends who are already cheering me on, telling me that I can totally beat this challenge. It will involve some cardio. After all, I do need to start training for my 10km run. And maybe I will inspire some of you to join in on the challenge. Next week will be a more motivating fitness update. I promise. After all, anything is possible if I try.
