A while ago I shared how I was just feeling stuck, like my life was on standby and I’m just drifting through it. Well, not anymore. There’s been a change in my life that I am excited to share. As well, I’ve come to the conclusion that I can do more to get out of that stuck feeling as well. It’s time to take a deep breath and dive head first into life and not worry about things that are out of my control. Getting unstuck starts now! And it may involve changes to this blog.
Getting Unstuck – Career
First, let’s start with some exciting news. I got a second job! It’s not a lot of hours right now, but I have been told that there may come an opportunity to get more hours in the near future…if I want them. Let me tell you, yes I want them. After all, I am trying to get out of debt. Yes this means that my life is about to go from busy to crazy busy, but it’s for a season. I think I can handle it. And for those of you wondering if my boss will see this, I have already informed her that I got this job. And she knows just how frustrated I’ve been with my debt, so she is happy for me. It probably helps that she’s not losing me. The job, for those who are screaming where did you get a job??? It’s at a chiropractor clinic as a receptionist.
Will This Lead to Burnout?
If I’m not careful, absolutely. To avoid this, I will attempt to ensure that I’m not working more than 40 hours a week with the two jobs combined. This will mean that I’ll have to make sure I’m getting enough hours at the hotel, still, but that I am not overdoing it when combined with the chiropractor hours. I do also have to consider that I have some night shifts again while I am in the hiring process at the hotel. Hopefully this is the shortest season of all but it’s hard to hire when references don’t get back to you. But I do plan to take time to rest as well, even if it means giving some things up.
Getting Unstuck – Giving Up
No, I’m not giving up on everything, or on getting unstuck. I simply mean giving up some of the things that I need to put on hold for a while. So, not really giving up, but more like hitting pause. Before you freak out, no, the podcast and my blog are not on the list. However, I might go down to one blog a week. I’ll try to keep the two blogs for now and see how it goes. And I promise to inform you if I need to go down to one blog a week. However, I am still strongly considering letting go of the blog all together and turning it into a podcast instead. Another thing I’ll keep you in the loop with.
What About the Book
It’s still a really slow process, but it’s a process. And, other than working on some of the things that my beta reader mentioned, there’s not much else I can do till I have more money for an editor. Hopefully, working two jobs can help with that a little. But my focus is paying off debt. Now, does this mean I can’t put anything aside for publishing my book? Not at all. It just means that I won’t be throwing money towards publishing my book, as I want to use the second paycheck to really hammer down on some of my debt. And, as I crush certain debts, I can put more towards my book. So, it’s not something I’ve given up. It’s just slightly on pause. But, we are getting closer.
Getting Unstuck – Self Care
I know, I know. I am a bit of a broken record when it comes to I’m going to work on self care….I failed. But I do mean it. When it comes to self care, I know I need a lot of work. There are small things I do. I see my chiropractor once a month, I do at least 1 workout a week. So, let’s call that progress, shall we? I don’t know what else to do at this time to work on self care. Things that come to mind for self care, for me, involve money which I do not have. So, they are on hold. But, I do plan to treat myself to a haircut before the year is over. Yes, I consider that self care.
Moving Forward
I admit, I’m a little bummed about taking away my main day of working for myself. But, if I need to prioritize and that means maybe I sacrifice a little here and there. And in my free time, I need to lock in and get more work than I’m currently getting done. So, maybe I sacrifice some game time. Maybe I choose to not sleep in on my days off. If I take advantage of my free time, and use it wisely, I’ll be okay. I just need to get there. And it will take some trial and error. I like to wait for prime recording time, but maybe I just record anyway. What’s important is that I keep my priorities in check. And we will see what the future has in store for me. After all, anything can happen if I try.
