Fitness Journey – February Edition

So, a lot of you liked my first edition, from January, and I want to stay accountable to some degree, so here is my February. Just a reminder, I am not a fitness trainer or dietitian. Everything in this blog are my own experiences, my own thoughts, and how I did or did not do what I set out to do. I am in no way saying if the diet or workouts are good or bad. Everyone is on their own fitness journey, and every fitness journey will look different. So, let’s dive in.

Fitness Journey Recap

Let’s go back for a brief second, shall we. I decided that this year, for 11 months, I would follow a different meal plan and exercise plan. I do each for 1 month, and they are drawn at random just before the beginning of the month. January I was Paleo and followed YouTube channel Pop Sugar Fitness. I won’t go into too much detail about that. If you want to know more about that, I’ll link my January blog at the end and you can check it out. What I will share is that I did not do so well. Now, let’s look at February.

February’s Plan

So, for the month of February I drew the Mediterranean diet and YouTube Channel Eleni Fit. I was excited to try this. I have wanted to try the Mediterranean diet in the past. After all, Gal Gadot follows this diet, and she looks fabulous. Now, I know that following that diet will not make me look like Gal, but hey, it could be fun to eat like her for a month. I followed the meal plan on the BetterMe app on my phone. It gave me four meals a day for 28 days. How did I do?

Highlights

Well, day 1 started with a bang. Right out of the gate I did a workout and diligently followed my meal plan. The food was delicious, as expected. What I loved the most was that the meals were all quick and easy to make. Clean up was easy and quick, so I didn’t have to spend hours in the kitchen afterwards doing dishes. For anyone who knows me, we know that I despise doing dishes. What about the workouts? They were actually pretty fun. Eleni doesn’t talk during the videos. It’s just music and she has videos to show what move is coming up next, so you’re never left wondering. She works along with you and you get decent breaks. The moves are all quite easy to grasp, though coordination is needed with some of them.

The Struggles

Now, to be fair, I did horribly and cannot give this meal plan or fitness plan a fair assessment. I’m not sure what happened, but my motivation went out the window very early on. I didn’t want to do the workouts, even though I had fun when I did them. I didn’t want to follow the meal plan, but just wanted everything that wasn’t on plan. To be honest, the hardest part of this is the feeling that you’re doing it alone. I’m not self motivated when it comes to my fitness and eating right. I’m more of a group participant in that regard. Put me in a fitness class. I might not do well, but gosh darn it, I’ll give it my all. So, doing this on my own was a real struggle.

Would I try this again?

Absolutely. The goal this year isn’t to succeed every month, but to grow every month. I want to grow in discipline, eat well and workout to be the best version of myself that I can be. And I want to have more energy, feel stronger, and grow in confidence in myself. Don’t be fooled if you follow me on social media and see me chatting away in my stories. I have so many doubts about myself and in what I can do. I want to change that. There were meals on the Mediterranean that I was looking forward to trying, but never did. The workouts were fun, and I will totally do them again.

Conclusion:

I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to following a meal plan and when it comes to my fitness, but I’m growing. It’s a fitness journey, not a fitness sprint. The most important thing I can take from this month is that no matter how many times I fall, I have to keep getting up. I struggled following the meal plan that my phone provided, but there were plenty of meals that I ate that were on plan. That’s a win in my books. The fitness aspect I know I need to improve on. So, I’m going to try again with the next plan that’s coming up.

I will try to be more accountable. This may mean that I will post more on my personal social media accounts. (Did you know that life with Stephanie has social media accounts now? I’ll link them below.) And that was February. Not much to report. I’m not too excited about March, so hopefully I can get past that and do well. Feel free to follow along.
