When I first started my blog people asked me what it was going to be about. I had no idea. To be honest, I’m still not sure what blogs are the most popular and which blogs I should avoid. There are a few that I have just naturally moved away from, and then there are some that I’m not sure if I should. I’m finding my niche slowly, but surely.
Finding My Niche – The Beginning
So, in the beginning I just decided to start randomly blogging about things and see what would happen. Anything I could think of I would blog about. My first ever mental health blog titled It’s Okay to Say No received the most interaction through my social media accounts. However, I didn’t get inspired by a ton of mental health ideas for posts. Plus, I just don’t think I’m the one to talk about mental health when I’m figuring it all out myself. Perhaps finding my niche means sharing my journey in discovering what that means.
Let’s Try Fitness
When I looked at what blogs do well, fitness blogs came up. Here I thought, what better way to motivate me in my fitness journey than to blog about it. However, as my loyal followers know, that didn’t happen. I still struggled to stay consistent all my blogs were about how I failed that week or that month. Now, I have not completely given up on that avenue of blogs, but I’ll be honest. I don’t think I’ll be finding my niche in fitness blogging.
Story Telling
I think this is one of my favourites. It’s helping me grow in confidence with my writing. This is also a safe space for me to play with different genres of writing and see what I enjoy. I’ve discovered that I enjoy thriller/mystery writing as well. Before this, I thought I could only write fantasy. The tricky part with the story blogs is getting regular traffic with them. I’ve had people admit that they wait until I have a number of chapters, or the whole story, done before they read it. They don’t want to wait each week for a new chapter. I understand that, and I am thankful that they want to keep reading. If the story sucked, waiting a week would not be a problem.
Still Finding My Niche
I’m still finding my niche. Lately, I’ve enjoyed reviewing books on my blog. This will certainly be something that I’ll continue with as well. And don’t worry, I’ll do my best to make sure that these reviews are spoiler free. Now it seems that the two blog styles that I enjoy the most are blogs that take time. So, what do I do with that? I can only go through a book so fast. Although, running out of books won’t be a problem because I finally got myself a library card this week. And I signed out three books – the first book in the Orphan X series and two more from Jaime Jo Wright. So, you can expect three book reviews in the next two weeks.
Curious
I have a question for all of you, and I hope to get a few answers. Would you be mad if my blogs shifted into just story telling and book reviews? I still plan on publishing books, so that could be tricky if I’m publishing stories on my blog. Or, it could keep the creative juices flowing in story telling. And book reviewing will certainly help me stay on track with my book reading challenge. So, I want to hear from you. Should I shift my blogs to focus on those two things, with a random scattering of other blogs if something comes up? Or, should I keep finding my niche by experimenting with different blogs? My blogs can be successful with your help. Because anything can happen if we try.
