DDS – Dirty Dancing

You guys! Have I got a review blog for you! Last night was the opening night of Destination Dinner Stage’s rendition of a classic – Dirty Dancing. This is the first time that my husband and I were able to make it for opening night so that I can do a proper review for all of you and encourage or discourage you from seeing the show. No time to delay. It’s time to give my honest review of Dirty Dancing!

Dirty Dancing Menu

Mamba Shrimp

First thing’s first. Let’s talk about the menu that they had for this show. We had our starter, entree, and dessert. The entree had 4 different options as usual; vegetarian, beef, chicken, and seafood. Let’s start at the beginning with the starter, which was Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner salad. With fresh ingredients like lettuce, watermelon, cucumber, and radishes, topped with feta cheese and champagne vinaigrette, what’s not to love? It was delicious and a great start to the meal. The options for the entree were Hungry Eyes Spaghetti for vegetarians, Kellerman’s Beef, She’s Like the Wind Chicken, and Mambo Shrimp. My husband went with the beef and I went with the shrimp. Dessert, we both had Time of My Life Black Forest Chocolate Cake.

Drinks and Ratings
Watermelon Margarita

Now, I usually go for the rum punch when I go to Destination Dinner Stage. It’s pretty and delicious. I never have any complaints. This time I decided to try something new and had a watermelon margarita. You guys; it was delicious! And very pretty as well. My husband had a double rye and coke, I think. We were both very happy with our drinks and with the food. It was absolutely amazing and everything was cooked perfectly. On a 5 star rating scale, I give the food 5 stars. My compliments to the chefs and bartenders. Well done everyone!

Dirty Dancing Service

Now, I will put in a bit of a caveat here. My husband and I have been coming to every show, only missing one of the shows since they started. And because we always get pictures on stage and I chat a bit with some of the staff, we are recognized by some of the people there. And some of them read my blogs. Hi guys! That being said, we got an incredible surprise this time. Well, a few. So, the first surprise we got was when we got to the table. There were other people there. The lady who sat us looked slightly baffled as well, but we sat down and didn’t think much about it. We ordered our drinks, got our salad and then we got the next surprise.

Fixing Mistakes

So, it turns out that the people who were at our table had been moved there by another server who thought that the table wasn’t being used. Our waitress ended up moving us to a table closer to the front so that we could have our own table. Basically, we got a free upgrade. Thank you for that. They had also made a mistake on my drink, which I wasn’t too concerned about. I was only sorry I couldn’t drink it because it was a milkshake and I can’t have milk. The waitress apologized for the mistake and then informed me that our first round of drinks was comped. My husband and I were surprised but grateful. And because of the amazing service, we wanted to leave a tip, so I got a coffee and he got a second drink so there would be a bill. We had no cash on us, or we could have done that. But honestly, amazing service. Well done.

Dirty Dancing – The Show

It’s been years since I saw the movie, but there were some moments that I remembered and even more moments that came to mind during the show. They did an amazing job with the show, the characters, and the story. The actor that played Johnny, I have to say, looked and acted very much like Patrick Swayze did. It was incredible. The dancing was so much like in the movies as well. They portrayed the show to take place a number of years after the movie happened. And they did some fun twists in it for all you Patrick Swayze fans. Plus, they threw in a lot of humor. They had the crowd laughing, clapping and cheering the whole evening. It was an incredible time.

Sorry it was blurry. They didn’t stay still very long :p

Overall Thoughts and Rating

At the beginning of the blog I said I would either recommend it or discourage it. I am happy to say that I completely recommend this show! The food, the show, the service was all incredible. It’s great for date night, or a night out with friends. And you will get that nostalgia if you have seen the movie. Trust me on this. They work so hard to make everything go right and give you a great time. So, if you like good food, laughing, great music and entertainment, this is for you. Book your tickets now. You won’t regret it. Until the next blog remember that anything can happen if you try.
