Christmas in Calgary

Well, I have made it to Calgary and I’m spending time with my family. It has been a riot so far, with lots of laughing together, and sometimes at each other. We already did presents, played games, and had lots of food and drinks. So, come along as I tell you about my trip so far. This is my Christmas in Calgary.

Arriving for Christmas

So, on Friday, December 15, I tried to sleep as much as possible during the day. I also tried to clean as much as possible. Then I worked the night shift. My shift ended at 6am and then my ride to the airport arrived at the hotel. I quickly packed up the last minute things, brought out my garbage, put my instructions out for care for my cats, and I was off. We stopped at Tim Hortons for coffee, headed to the airport, where I quickly went through security. I didn’t have any checked bags, so I skipped the step of bringing my checked bag. However, the plane was full so the airport staff asked for volunteers to check their bags for free. I offered because I didn’t want to deal with the overhead compartments.

After a boring 2 hour flight (I forgot to bring my headphones or anything to entertain myself with) I arrived in Calgary. It’s been a while since I’ve been in this airport because it looked very different. I went to baggage claim to get my bag and then headed out to the taxi area. I accidentally picked the sedan service instead of a taxi, but I didn’t regret it. The driver was great and didn’t drive like most taxi drivers that I’ve experienced – recklessly. The car was quite comfortable as well. I arrived at my parents house and the Christmas craziness began.

Reuniting with Family

The only family I have in Calgary are my parents and younger brother. We hugged and brought my bags in before sitting around the table to catch up and let me have another cup of coffee. This was now my third cup (I had one on the plane as well) and I needed the extra boost. After that we left my brother’s dog with our dad and I went to the grocery store with my mom and brother. Chaos ensued as my adult brother and I let out our inner child. With my encouragement, my brother tossed random things into the shopping cart whenever my mom’s back was turned. There was also lots of dancing to the music in the store. I should also mention here that the grocery store we were in is where my mom works. We were trying to embarrass my mom in front of her coworkers.

After we were done spending a lot of my mom’s money we headed back to the house and unloaded the groceries. Then we were hit with a surprise. My brother’s dog got her period and he didn’t have anything for her. So, he and our mom headed out to the pet store and then the liquor store. Dad and I stayed home and I took the opportunity to finish my chapters because it was Saturday. I posted those and visited with dad until my brother and mom got back.

Let Christmas Chaos Begin

Now we were ready for the festivities to begin. While we waited for our supper of finger foods to finish cooking, we opened up some of the shots drinks they had bought. However, instead of getting shot glasses we just passed the bottle around and before long the first bottle was done. It was just a small one, so it wasn’t like we were trying to get drunk. As we settled in the living room with more drinks we all decided that we would open one gift each. That went out the window and we ended up going through all the presents. Laughter was had as my brother, with his broken hand, tried to open a well taped box. I helped him while laughing.

After that we cleaned up all the garbage, with my brother and I goofing off the whole time. Then we just drank and visited through the remainder of the evening. We also took turns taking my brother’s dog out to the bathroom, and she was not happy to be in her period diaper. We took it off for bathroom breaks only. I was the first one to tap out and say I was going to bed. By this time I had been awake for over 24 hours, and the alcohol was making me more tired. We set up my bed and my brother went to another room to spend more time with our mom. They were not tired yet. I ended up waking up when they were going to bed because my brother’s dog decided to jump on my bed and lay on my feet.

Just the Beginning

Sunday was pretty relaxed as well. We ended up having pizza for breakfast because we didn’t have it for supper the previous night. The remainder of the day was filled with snacks, drinking random soda drinks that we had bought, and playing games. My mom and brother taught me how to play crib, and after that we ended up playing bingo on our laptops. Lunch was skipped and we had a bit of an earlier supper. My mom and brother made a delicious Christmas supper of mashed potatoes, steamed carrots, steak and salad. After supper we said goodbye to my brother as he had to head home because he worked the next day. He works at a barn, so he had to wake up early. My mom and I settled down with drinks and our laptops and resumed playing bingo through Facebook.

Again, there was lots of laughter as I kept saying that we needed to save the turtles. There was a room where in order to get Bingo you had to clear a path for an old turtle. We stayed up quite late playing the game as we found a glitch in it. If we logged into a game at the exact same time, even though we were in different rooms and different levels, our bingo callers called the same numbers. Not sure if it was the alcohol or because we were tired but we were both highly amused. This lasted until much later and we called it a day a little after midnight. Setting up my bed again we got ready for bed, with some more shenanigans from me.

To Be Continued

This morning has been another chill morning, and looks to be another relaxing day. I’m hoping to convince my mom to go on a day trip tomorrow. After all, I need something to blog about on Wednesday. We don’t have much of an agenda, seeing as we are on Christmas holidays right now. Relaxation and fun are the only agenda, and spending time together. Speaking of, I will post this and go back to spending time with my family. I wonder what shenanigans I’ll get up to today. And don’t worry, I’ll keep trying to get that day trip for tomorrow for the blog. Anything can happen if I try.
