Thankful – A Thanksgiving Post

In honour of thanksgiving weekend, I have decided to do a Thanksgiving blog and share some of the things that I’m thankful for. This will also be a therapeutic blog for me. I’ve focused so much on what’s been going wrong in my life. By reminding myself of everything I have to be thankful for, I can hopefully change my mindset and work towards a healthier mental state.

The Hotel

My job is something I should be thankful for. I have incredible coworkers and a boss who goes above and beyond for me. She’s giving me a place to stay at the hotel while I work on paying off my debt. She helps me in other ways as well, with gift cards and donations. As stressful as things can be, as in any work place, it’s so much better when you have people who do what they can to help you. And not just at work, but in my personal life as well. I’m very thankful for them all.

Friends

I am blessed to say I have some incredible friends. When I was younger, going through school, I didn’t have a lot of friends. Some of the friends I did have were more school friends, than out of school friends. Most of the friends I had in school are no longer in touch with me. The friends I have now, the friends I made through church, have been there through thick and thin with me. When I’m down, they pick me back up. If I’m discouraged, they encourage me. I am so thankful for them.

Family

I’ll be honest, I’m not very close to my family. We just live differently and that’s alright. When I need them though, they are there for me. Sometimes it takes me a while to remember how thankful I am for them. There are times when it takes me spending time with another family to remind me that I have a great and fun family. I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

Church

I am so thankful for my church. I’m still getting to know people but I do feel at home still. The opportunity to teach in the Sunday school is something I will always be thankful for. Just this last weekend I got to teach. It wasn’t my scheduled weekend, but I had switched with another teacher who needed the weekend off. I felt very unprepared, but the kids were awesome. I got to teach them and build relationships with them as we played, laughed and danced till their parents came. It was awesome and I know that those kids had fun, which is the most important thing.

Thankful

These are just some of the things that I am thankful for. It’s a good reminder to me. No matter how bad or stressful things are, I have so much to be thankful for. I hope that this encourages you all to remember the good things and people in your life. What are you thankful for? I would love to hear from you. Happy thanksgiving everyone. And remember, anything can happen if we try.
