May – The Fitness Continues

Well, we have started a brand new month and with that comes an update on my fitness journey. We have talked about the struggles of how January to April just didn’t work. I honestly thought May was going to be leaps and bounds different, but….well, you’ll just need to read to find out what went right and what went wrong. You may be surprised. So, here we go.

The Plan

So, for the month of May the plan was actually quite simple. Eat dairy free and go jogging. Excellent. I mostly eat dairy free because a few years ago my stomach started rejecting dairy in a painful way. Now I have to take pills to help me eat meals that contain dairy, when there are no dairy free alternatives. And sometimes even that isn’t going to help me. As for jogging, the weather was getting nice and it is something that my friend, Geralyn, and I enjoy doing together. For me, this meant that this month was going to be easy.

Let’s Workout

So, I am happy to announce that I did go on a handful of jogs. Did I jog enough to call this month a win? No. I think there was a full week where I didn’t go, maybe two. However, I am not calling this month a loss. I went for walks, and even got in a day at the beach with my best friend, Rosie, and we swam a bit. The water was freezing, but we still had fun. I also went on a hike, as you know if you read my Amisk Trail blog. I was active in May, just not all of it was jogging. And that’s okay.

The Food

Now, let’s talk about the meals. Being someone who can’t consume dairy without punishment, you would think that this would have been a simple meal plan to follow. You’re not wrong, but that was not the case. I don’t know what happened, but the thought of making my own meals this month was just the furthest thing from my mind. I had so much takeout. If I craved it, I got it. McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Subway, and more were on the menu. In fact, the healthiest thing I had was probably sushi. I guess I did make myself eggs and toast a few times. So, needless to say, the food was one gigantic failure.

Moving Forward

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Steph, are you ever going to have a successful month? I guess that depends on your definition of success. Just because I didn’t go jogging 5 days a week, every week, does not make me a failure. I did go jogging, but I also went on walks, a hike, and swam at the beach. When it came to being active, I was successful. Now, the food was the furthest from successful but I’m not entirely mad. This was just one very terrible eating month. And I was not in the greatest head space last month either, as some of you may have noticed from some of the blogs. So, let’s move forward together and not let the past define us.

Resetting Myself

This month will look different, so my next fitness journey update will also look different. This month I did not draw a new meal plan and workout program. I am trying to eat better and stay away from takeout this month. I’m going on a much needed vacation in July, so I need to save my money for activities and food out there. For exercise, I’m continuing with the jogging and anything else that helps me to be active. I did sign up for the 10 kilometre run portion of the Manitoba Marathon, so I want to keep training for that.

Let’s Wrap This Up

So, that is my journey so far. Lots of ups and downs, like any journey. However, I am not going to give up. I will find success in my journey in my own way. Now, we have to remember, what success looks like to me could look different than success to you. Everyone has their own journey, and their own ideas of what it should look like. To me, May was my most successful month. And I’m happy about that. June is starting off as successful, but who knows what will happen the rest of the month. Will I eat healthy all month? No. In fact, I have an event coming up in a few days where I’ll be eating pizza. I’m never going to let my “diets” keep me from enjoying the social aspect of life. If my friends want to go out to eat, I’m going to go out to eat.

I can’t wait to start my YouTube channel and share my fitness journey there as well. It might actually start this year. Some things are changing and I’m excited for a new chapter to begin. Your continued support will really help me out, so thank you to everyone who supports me. If you want to support me with the Manitoba Marathon, please click the link below and donate to the charity that I’m trying to raise money for. All donations of $25 or more will receive a tax receipt. It’s for a good cause. None of the money goes to me, all to the charity. So, thank you in advance and remember, anything can happen if you try.
