DDS – Golden Gals

There was a dinner theatre in Winnipeg called Celebrations for a number of years. However, it shut down and a lot of people were disappointed by that. Myself included. But, recently a new dinner theatre opened up in the same location – Destination Dinner Stage! So, naturally I was excited and went to go see it. Their first production was called Golden Gals. Let me share my review on the place and experience. Note, they don’t allow pictures during the production, which is why I don’t have pictures of the actual show.

Golden Gals Show

One of the sets

The cast did a phenomenal job. It was hilarious, the songs were well known to many and very catchy. You couldn’t help but sing along. The three stages were well put together. And the characters were amazing. They even interacted with the audience a few times. There was one who kept flirting with the men who had come along. It was highly entertaining. For my experience with the show, I give it 5 stars.

The Food

Delicious Rum Punch. I had 2 of these and could have had more!

Every good dinner theatre needs a good menu and the Destination Dinner Stage didn’t disappoint. When we purchased our tickets we were supposed to pick our entree. Now, I’m not sure if it’s because we pre-ordered our tickets too early but we didn’t find much information. It just asked if we wanted the beef, chicken, fish or vegetarian. This could have been because we ordered before they opened. Golden Gals was their opening production and we went a few days after opening night. I chose the fish option, which turned out to be salmon, a favourite of mine. Everything was delicious, including the drinks that we ordered, so 5 stars.

Overall Experience

I was a bad blogger and started to eat this before I took the picture. Can you blame me?

Now, I will say that I couldn’t help but compare the Destination Dinner Stage to Celebrations Dinner Theatre. The one thing that really stood out to me was the serving staff. Don’t get me wrong, they did a great job and served us all quickly and made sure we always had a drink. The main thing I think I was missing though was that they were just servers. With Celebrations, the serving staff was a part of the production. They didn’t necessarily act in the production, but they added to the experience and got to be in character. That was not the case with the Destination Dinner stage servers. But they still did a great job doing what they were hired to do, so I’ll give that a 4.5.

Golden Gals Overall Rating

Overall, I will give my experience a 4.75. Everything was absolutely amazing, and I love that the cast mingled with everyone after the show and took photos. And we were allowed on the stage to just take photos as well, after the show. The only thing that took away from being a complete 5 star was that I did miss the serving staff being in character and part of the production. Other than that, everything was perfect. I highly recommend going to check out the new Destination Dinner Stage if you’re in the Winnipeg area. They will be playing Golden Gals until December 31. It’s definitely worth the cost. Great for a date night, or night out with friends. And a big hit if you watched Golden Girls (I had not).
