Alright everyone. Here we go. Chapter 18 is coming at you and if all goes according to plan, it will be intense! Enjoy.

Chapter 18

Davis pushed his plate away and leaned back in his chair. He was stuffed. The man watched him. He was no longer smiling.

“Have you had enough to eat?” Davis nodded. “Good.” He got up and left the room. Not sure if he was supposed to follow, Davis remained in his seat. He hadn’t eaten that well since he was abducted. Perhaps he had slightly overeaten. The two men who had taken him from his room walked in and he stood up to follow them. Instead of back up to his room, they brought him into the study. It was pitch black in the room, the windows having been covered with dark curtains. Immediately, Davis felt uneasy. “I’m sorry it has to be this way Davis. But it is your parents fault.” Before Davis could answer, a fist rammed into his stomach!

What Would You Do

Davis doubled over, clutching his stomach. A wave of nausea hit him. A light came on, temporarily blinding him as the two men grabbed his arms.

“Wait -” Davis tried to speak but the man punched him in the stomach again. Davis gagged. The man looked at him. Was that regret on his face? “Please, don’t.” His face steeled and the cold expression returned.

“I’m sorry.” He punched Davis again, jumping to the side as he vomited. He nodded to the two men and they released the teen. Falling to his hands and knees, Davis coughed and spat, trying to rid himself of the taste. Why was this happening? Before he could fully catch his breath the man’s boot connected with his ribs, knocking him over. Curling up in the fetal position, Davis tried to protect himself as the man continued to kick him. Finally, he felt himself slip into unconsciousness, passing out from the pain.

Chapter 18

Frank watched the truck pull up to a house as he continued on down the road. Pulling off onto a side road, he killed the engine and climbed out of his vehicle. A minute later a black SUV pulled in behind him and six armed men piled out. Frank reached under his seat, pulling out his gun and checking that it was loaded and ready. The men waited for him. He trusted each and every one of them.

“We have to hit the building hard and fast. Get Davis and get out. Shoot anyone who tries to get in our way. Got it?” They all nodded and followed him through the woods towards the house. As the house came into sight the guns were all triple checked. Frank took a deep breath and bolted towards the house!

What Would You Do

Men dove for weapons as Frank and his men burst into the house. Frank put a bullet into the first man’s back, right between the shoulder blades. Behind him, his men fanned out. The sound of gunfire and screams was heard throughout the house. It was a good thing these guys had picked a house in the middle of nowhere. Clearing the main floor, Frank headed upstairs, one of his men on his heels. The two trained professionals cleared the first two rooms. Approaching the third door, Frank noticed the lock on it. That seemed promising. Moving to the side, he nodded to his man. Bracing himself the man booted the door in, a scream sounding from inside. Quickly, Frank rushed into the room and froze. A terrified teenage girl, huddled in the corner of the room, stared up at him, tears pouring from her blue eyes.

“Please don’t kill me.” Startled, Frank exchanged looks with his man before nodding his head out the door. The man left to clear the rest of the house with his team. Putting the gun back in its holster, Frank slowly approached the girl, holding his hands up to show her that he meant her no harm.

“I’m not going to kill you sweetheart. Can I show you a picture?” She nodded and he reached into his jeans and pulled out his cell phone. After finding the picture he wanted, he turned the phone to her. “Have you seen him?” She looked at the picture and he saw recognition flicker over her face. Hope surged through him.

“Yes, but that was a few days ago already. He was at the diner I work at with some friends.”

Chapter 18

Tessa saw the man’s face fall and he pocketed his phone. Another man entered the room.

“All clear. No sign of the boy.” The man sighed.

“Alright. Let’s get out of here.” He turned to Tessa. “Let’s get you out of here. I’ll drop you off at the corner near the police station.” She sniffed, unsure if she should trust this man.

“I would rather go to the hospital.” She saw his eyes looking her over, searching for an injury. “My family is there with my sister. She’s sick.” He nodded and held out a hand to her.

“Then the hospital it is.” Tessa hesitated, looking up at the man’s face once more. Kind eyes stared back at her and she took his hand, tears of relief pouring down her cheeks.

“Thank you.”

What Would You Do

Pain crept through Davis’ body as he regained consciousness. Everything was quiet and he could tell he wasn’t on the floor anymore. Slowly, he opened his eyes and saw that he was back in the bedroom, laying on the bed. A cry escaped as he moved and he lay completely still. Memories of the beating flooded through him and he felt his dark eyes sting with tears. What happened? Why had the man suddenly beat him? Had he done something wrong? Behind him the door opened and the sound of footsteps brought the visitor closer to the bed.

“Davis? Are you awake?” It was the man. Unsure if he should answer, Davis lay completely still. The man rounded the bed and looked down at him. A pained expression flickered across his face before it went back to being expressionless. Davis wondered if he had imagined it. “How do you feel?”

“How do you think I feel?” Davis couldn’t keep the pain and anger out of his voice. The man nodded.

“You will have three days to rest and then I will hurt you again. Your beating was recorded and sent to your parents. From now on things will only get worse for you. I’m sorry.”

“Stop saying you’re sorry,” Davis spat out. “It doesn’t mean anything because you’re not. If you were sorry, you wouldn’t have kept hurting me. Just go away.”

“As you wish.” The man left the room, closing the door behind him. Only once he heard the lock click into place did Davis allow the tears to fall. He could not think of any other time he had felt completely hopeless. Were his parents looking for him? Had the police been contacted? And more importantly, how many days did he have left before the man killed him?
