Sorry I didn’t write a blog on Monday. I was very into my reading and because I overslept, I had a late start. So, because I wanted to spend as much time reading as possible, I skipped the blog. Also, finishing the first book took longer than anticipated. Let me tell you about my better attempt at the 24 hour reading challenge.
Better Attempt Than the Last
This was a better attempt in the fact that I actually read for 24 hours. Yes, I used the timer method. And yes, it took more than one day to actually complete the 24 hours. In fact, that’s why this blog is coming out so late in the day. What didn’t help is there were times that I forgot to start the timer. I always remembered to stop it. But there were times I would be reading and suddenly remember I hadn’t started the timer, or check to see where it was at. So, in truth, I may have done more than 24 hours. Oh well, last time I didn’t make it past, I think it was 10 hours. So, this was a better attempt.
How Many Books
This is where I didn’t have success. I finished one book and one fan fiction story. That’s it. Now, you’re probably wondering why that’s it. Let me tell you. For this attempt I wanted to make sure I didn’t get bored with reading. So, when I started to lose interest in one book, I would put it down and pick up a different book. And then the cycle would continue. At one point I was reading 4 different books. Thank you ADHD for helping me keep them all straight in my head. However, I did realise that this technique had a serious flaw. If I didn’t push through a book I wasn’t going to finish a book. So, I was able to push myself to finish a book. And then I found a site with fan fiction and that suddenly became more interesting to me.
Reviews?
I will put out a review of the book that I did finish. However, I will not write reviews on fan fiction. It seems a bit unnecessary. I’m still working through my books, but at a much slower rate right now because the fan fiction is hitting all the interest points right now. And I’ll admit that I have a special place in my heart for fan fiction because that’s how I started to write stories. So, that will be my private enjoyment and I’ll just share reviews on books that authors are trying to make money from. My understanding is that no one can earn money from fan fiction because they technically don’t own the rights. So, it’s just for fun.
Will Fan Fiction Replace Novels?
No. Like I said, I am still reading books. I’m slowly making my way through 2 different fantasies and a murder mystery thriller. And I do put in an effort to read a handful of chapters from one of those books in between fan fiction stories. But, as long as I find fan fiction stories that interest me, I’ll also continue to read those. I’ll just make a rule that after I finish one fan fiction story I’ll have to read a few chapters of a novel to make sure I’m not completely falling behind on my goal. Slow and steady.
Will I Try a Better Attempt Again
Maybe? 24 hours is a long time to be reading, especially when you’re working a full time job and have night shifts. Why do I keep trying? Personally, I blame BookTube. Seeing them tackle these challenges seems to motivate me to try. In the back of my mind I keep thinking I can easily read a number of books. I remember watching one couple try it and the wife only read 2 while her husband read 3. I thought, that was sad and I can do better. Apparently not at this point. But who knows what the future brings. Anything can happen, if I try. Now I’m heading back to the fan fiction I was reading before this.
