April – A Journey Continued

Hello all. I’m back! Sorry about the week hiatus last week. I’ll go deeper into that in a later blog. This one is the next chapter in my fitness journey. This month is…tricky to judge how I did. Follow along and see what April looked like for me.

Food and Workouts

So, April was an interesting month. This month was a traditional meal plan and HIIT workouts. Traditional meal plans are basically meal plans with no restrictions. So, I could eat whatever I want. HIIT workouts are high intensity interval training. It does kind of cover a vast amount of different workouts, and because I don’t have a gym membership, I had to just look for some on YouTube.

What I Enjoyed

The freedom. I really got excited about the idea of eating whatever I wanted. I also enjoyed looking up different workouts and different styles of HIIT, as well as dipping my toe into some weight training, if you want to call some light dumbbells weight training.

The Dangers of no limits

Sometimes no limits can be a challenge when trying to stay healthy. What I found at first was that I wanted to eat healthy. I wanted to use lots of recipes from my many cookbooks and I got to try some delicious recipes. However, laziness crept in and it went from making delicious healthy recipes to eating lots of fast food. And with the workouts, I did find that I was straying from HIIT and just doing whatever. Now, what’s wrong with that? Nothing, but I can’t say how effective HIIT workouts are for me.

My Thoughts

I think that, for myself, I need more accountability. The one thing I have noticed with every single meal plan and workout plan is that I start off great, but I very quickly lose interest and go a different route or give up. I also know that I need to find something that I enjoy. That is part of the reason I’m changing things up every month. I want to find something that I’ll stick to.

What I’ll Keep

As I mentioned earlier, I did do some basic weight training. I followed a YouTuber named Caroline Girvin. I have to say, I highly enjoyed following her videos and I do plan to do a few this month, along with the current plan. I only have two sets of dumbbells, and they’re not very heavy, but I want to build some strength before going heavier. Perhaps, one day, I can get my own place and build myself a small home gym. That’s a goal, but one that is on the shelf right now as I can’t afford to buy a place. Perhaps one day my blogs can help me with that goal.

Let’s Wrap it Up

So, that was April. I don’t call it a success, but not a complete failure. I enjoyed the workouts that I did, and will continue some of them along with other workouts on my journey. I’m hoping that I can give you a better success story for May. I know I will have a bit more accountability this month as I have a friend who enjoys the workout of the month, so we will most likely meet up and workout together a few times this month. I am actually excited about this month’s workouts. The food plan is quite a bit loose again, so not sure how that will go. Plus, my birthday is coming up and everyone knows that you don’t follow any kind of diet on your birthday.

For you

I’ll link some of the HIIT videos I tried, as well as Caroline Girvin’s account so you can try them out for yourselves. There are so many different “diets” and workouts out there. I’m just hoping to be consistent in one of those areas by the end of this year. And with the weather getting nice, finally, I look forward to doing a lot of outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, and going for walks with friends. I hope to have a success story, or even just part of one, for you when I do the May update, so stay tuned.
