A Fun Day

Well, I have certainly been dropping the ball when it comes to my blogs. For that I apologise. Ironically, I just watched a YouTube video that has motivated me and I’m making plans on how to improve my time. But, that’s for a different blog. Today I want to share about a fun day I just had with a friend’s daughter. Hopefully more of these will come out as well.

Planning a Fun Day

So, I wanted to do something fun with a friend’s kid. A one on one day to allow her to be the center of attention for a while. She has five siblings, and as the oldest child, I can see that being tough for her parents. To clarify, I think her parents do an excellent job with their children. This is not anything against them. I wanted to just help by doing something special and I wanted the day to be perfect. Or as close to it as I possibly could make it on a limited budget. So, I looked at what we could do and made the plan. When I told her what we would be doing she was super excited.

And We’re Off

After sorting out some things at work I messaged her mom that I was on my way. A quick stop to the gas station first and then I drove to their place. Here I was greeted by 6 happy children, most in costumes that they had been trying on. Even my friend was in a costume. Some of the kids were sad that they couldn’t come with and I told them that they would get their turn too. The eldest grabbed what she needed, hugs went around and then we were off. We chatted the whole way to the city and she shared how excited she was for this day.

Let a Fun Day Begin

Arriving at our destination, we headed into the mall, where she wanted to hold my hand. First we went to the movie theatre to get our movie tickets. I told her the two options she had to pick from and she picked Inside Out 2. There was plenty of time before our movie and she wasn’t quite ready for lunch yet. So, we headed to the arcade and played games for about an hour. I let her pick each game, although I did introduce her to pacman. She had never heard of it, but she did great and won two rounds. After working up a bit of an appetite, we headed to the food court to get some lunch. She chose Italian and I went with Japanese. The portions were huge and neither of us finished our meal. I didn’t want to bring the food into the movie theatre, and we wouldn’t have been allowed, so we dropped our leftovers in the car. Then it was a quick bathroom break, grabbed some movie snacks, and went to watch our movie.

Too Short

By the time our movie was over it was nearly 4pm and I said it was time to head back home. She was a bit sad that we couldn’t spend more time together but she understood as well. I told her that if I had more money we could have done a few more things. After assuring her that this was not a one time thing, we went out to the car and headed home. She gave me the biggest hug when I dropped her off and told me she loved me. My heart melted. I think I succeeded in making her feel special that day.

Until the Next One

Like I mentioned, I want to do this with other kiddos too. I don’t have my own children, and my siblings do not have children. For someone who loves kids and wants them to know how precious they are, it sucks when you can’t do this on a regular basis. And my finances will hold me back a bit as well, but I am looking forward to doing this again. Maybe I can plan one outing a month. With two friends who have kids that would love this, that will be a lot of outings. And of course I’ll do outings with more than one kid as well. Again, I know finances will play a huge role on what I can do, but I am looking forward to spending time with these kids. Some of them call me auntie and it just fills my heart with so much joy. I can’t wait to continue to love on these kids in the future. Maybe when I get my own place I’ll do sleepovers with them and give the parents a bit of a break. Anything can happen, if I try.
