Ending a Series

Today I had to switch up my plan as I still have not finished my current read. It got me thinking. Why is it taking me so long to finish this book? It’s not that I’m not enjoying it. In fact, I am enjoying the book. Normally this would be a page turner and I wouldn’t want to stop reading. So, what seems to be the problems. Is it because this book is ending a series?

Why Ending a Series is Hard

Now, to be clear, I know that it’s not always hard. There are some series out there that people wish would just end. I can think of some movie series that should have ended after the first one in my opinion. Apparently I’m alone in some cases. But, when you’re enjoying a really good series, whether it be a book, movie or TV show, it can be hard to say goodbye. Ending a series means saying goodbye to beloved characters, an interesting world, and trying to figure out where to move on to next. Now, in my case, the last one shouldn’t be valid. After all, I still have the Orphan X series.

I Should be Excited

Now, this trilogy has literally been all over the place for me. It has played with my emotions, confused me, at one point bored me, and now grabs me. But, I do not expect a happy ending to it. So, I should be excited that ending a series means I can move onto other series. But, will I fall into the same problem as I near the end of those ones? Other than Orphan X, I have a few other series I want to read. And I’m excited about those series. But, first I need to finish this one.

Ending a Series, or Not?

Now, I have heard rumours that the book I’m currently reading is not actually the last of the series and that the author has another coming out. However, I have not looked too much into that, just yet. Will that make me read this book faster? No. Because who knows how long I’ll have to wait for the next one, if there is a next one. And, until I read the ending I won’t know if I want another book. What if the ending to this book is the perfect way to end the series? I guess I’ll just have to keep reading to find out, won’t I?

Have to Finish Quickly

I do want to finish this book today, as it is due tomorrow. Plus, I really just need to get the ball rolling again. It seems that I may be in a bit of a reading slump. I’ve heard of people talking about these on YouTube. Where you just don’t want to read. If there is one challenge I really want to complete this year it is my reading challenge. 50 books is not a lot. To my thinking. Maybe, if I can actually get some free time, I might try the 24hr reading challenge. There are two ways to do it. One is the timer method. You start your timer when you start reading and stop it when you take a break. The second option is to just do it for 24hrs straight. The goal is to see how many books you can get done in 24 hours. I think my favourite YouTuber to do this challenge got 5 books read. It would be interesting to see how many books I could get through.

Should I?

What do you think? Should I try the challenge? Would you try a challenge like this? How many books do you think you could get through? I wonder how many I could get through. This took a bit of a turn from ending a series, but hey. It’s just before 6am as I write this so give me a bit of grace. My night shift is winding down and then I need to sleep and try to get to the insurance broker to renew my car insurance before 5pm, when I start work again. I really wanted to get this done before I go to bed so I don’t have to worry about it. Or worse, forget about it. I will strongly consider trying the challenge and blogging about my experience. After all, anything can happen if I try.
