I may not have a YouTube channel but I don’t see a reason why I can’t join the hype of a TBR jar. Yes, I probably should have started this in January, but I didn’t get to it until now, so here go. In this blog I will share why I want to make this a blog series, which book prompts I had, and which book I chose for each prompt. Now, let’s dive in and see what books are on the list from my 2026 TBR jar in March.
Why Make A 2026 TBR Jar
Honestly, some of my favourite videos to watch on YouTube are when BookTubers pick their monthly TBR. The challenge of picking a specific number of books, and specific books to read each month sounds fun. Plus, I have this goal. Maybe you’ve heard of it? I want to read 50 books this year and actually make the goal this year. This should help me with that. Now, the Book Tubers that I follow usually pick 5 books every month, and then read more on top of those 5. For March, I will try 5 books. I picked 4 prompts, and picked my 5 books. Let me break it down for you.
Book Club Pick
As some of you know, I joined a book club. We will be choosing a book each month to read and then discuss. So obviously this means that I already have one book to read each month. And there is more pressure to actually read and finish it so I can take part in the book discussions. For the month of March we are reading The Road To Tender Hearts by Anne Hartnett. This book sounds so wacky and fun, but is also not one I would have chosen on my own. A darkly comic and warm-hearted novel about an old man on a cross country trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart. He brings along his adult daughter, two orphaned kids and a cat who can predict death! Like I said, wacky.
2026 TBR Jar First March Pick
The first prompt I picked was a book with a great first sentence. This was the hardest book prompt that I had to pick. First, I looked through the remaining library books that I had signed out in February but had not read. The first sentence of these books was nothing special. One actually made me laugh, but I wouldn’t say it was a great sentence. So I went to my book shelves and started looking through books that I wanted to get to. I was starting to wonder if I would be able to pick one. Then I read the prologue of Lone Wolf, the next book in the Orphan X series that I need to read. I’m counting it because it had me wanting to read and find out what the heck that sentence was talking about.
The Second 2026 TBR Jar March Pick
The second prompt was to pick a book that I’ve had for more than a year. What made this one tricky is most of the books that I’ve had for a long time I’ve read already. The rest have gone to the book exchange and, well, been exchanged. As I looked through my shelves I actually thought that I would have to scrap that prompt. Then I found one. So, my book for this prompt is XO by Jeffery Deaver. This book is a thriller with a beautiful young star who finds out she is being stalked by an obsessive fan who thinks her biggest hit song was written just for him. Sounds intense. Hopefully this is a good read.
3rd Pick
My third prompt was a bit easier to pick. A book with a place in the title. I had a bit of range with this one as a place could be a country, city, or even a location like a library. For this one I settled on A Murder in Paris by Matthew Blake. The quick blurb for this one says, an expert in memory must uncover the truth about her family’s wartime past. It’s a psychological thriller. Should be an interesting read.
2026 TBR Jar Last March Pick
The last prompt that I got was a book that I would recommend to my parents. My mom reads, maybe not as much anymore, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen my stepdad with a book. Now, here’s the problem. My mom and I have very different tastes in books. She mainly likes to read romance. I do not. In fact, I was certain that I would have to go to the library and find a romance. But, then I found a book that I think she might like. Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand. This book I bought specifically because of a BookTuber. It looks to be some sort of mystery, who done it, sort of book. I think Elin also sprinkles romance into this book, so we will see.
What’s on Your 2026 TBR
What about you? What books are you hoping to read this month. Do you pick TBR prompts for your reads? What sort of prompts do you think I should have in my TBR jar? I suppose technically I have more than 5 books to read this month. I’ve got 4 library books, one which I am reading currently. I suppose I have 5, but the other is an audio book. The audio book is not going to be renewable as it is a popular book. That’s all I will say about that one. I guess we will see how many books I can get done this month and that will help decide how many books to choose next month. Anything can happen if I try.
